What is the Alexander Technique?
The Alexander Technique is a pedagogical and empirical method used to improve the overall coordination of the human organism, which has a positive effect on the quality of all everyday movement and activities.
The Alexander Technique was named after the Australian actor F. M. Alexander (1869-1955), and for over one hundred years it has been one of the most famous and renowned methods of therapy and training when it comes to disruptions of psycho-physical coordination and balance.
The Alexander Technique teaches openness and flexibility in the use of mental and physical capacities. Its aim is to achieve the natural and effortless straightening of the body and its movements in all everyday situations.
Reducing tension and removing bad habits lead to an optimum level of psychophysical coordination, ergonomically correct movements, and maximum performance in everything we do. Thus, the Alexander Technique is an optimal physiological basis for learning to correct any activity/movement. It teaches us how to be flexible in our thoughts and movements and increases focus and performance. In a nutshell, it establishes harmony between body and mind.
The dynamic balance of the head in relation to the body is key for achieving ease and freedom of movement.
“The right thing does itself when we stop doing the wrong thing.”
